About the Teacher
Welcome to Intervention
Welcome to Intervention at Live Oak Elementary! I am honored to have your child in my classroom, and I am excited to work with you and your child throughout the year. I know that we will have a successful, exciting, and productive year. I look forward to being a part of the academic progress your child will make.
I received my degree in Elementary Education from Texas State University in Early Childhood Education in 1996. I received my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas State University in 1997. I taught third grade in the Comal ISD for 2 years before moving to Austin. I spent 7 years at Berkman Elementary teaching 6 years in third and one year in 2nd. In the fall of 2005 I came to Live Oak Elementary and started teaching first grade. My oldest daughter began Kindergarten that same year at Live Oak. I have been married for 20 years to my husband Brady. Both our girls attended Live Oak Elementary K-5. They are now at McNeil. I am very excited to help take your child to new levels of learning and prepare them for the years to come.
I like to begin the year by quickly establishing a warm, inviting atmosphere where children feel free to express themselves. By building a classroom community, we develop cooperation, kindness, and a mutual respect for one another!
I have extremely high academic and behavioral expectations for my students. I will constantly emphasize three principles in my classroom: be responsible, be respectful, and be curious. I expect every student will learn to the best of his or her ability. Students will strive to take responsibility for producing high quality work on all assignments and will work as a community. In addition to these expectations, I will help students learn to become increasingly independent as the year progresses. My goal is for all students to become independent learners and develop a desire for knowledge upon entering the next grade level.
I believe that it is important that we work as a team in order to make this year as successful as possible for your child. I want to be sure there is clear and frequent communication between home and school, because you are an integral part of your child’s education. We will communicate through your child’s homework folder, email, and in many other ways. I would like to extend an invitation for you to contact me if you have any questions throughout the year. I can be reached through my classroom phone at (512) 428-3855 or via email [email protected]. I hope that you are as excited as I am about watching your child grow this year!"
